Why Does It Matter?

In many ways, special needs children are a forgotten group. As they sit in their wheelchair or lie on the floor, the rest of the world goes on never realizing their true potential. It shouldn’t be that way. Most of these children are brilliant. They are simply trapped in their bodies. They have difficulty communicating with the outside world.

Renewed Hope Foundation exists to help these children and their families have hope for a better future. Through education and training, we strive to help parents make the lives of their special needs children more healthy, joyful, and fulfilling.

It takes a lot of work to bring one special needs child from blindness to reading, or to better health, or to better mobility, or to improved intelligence. If that child’s parents are willing to do that hard work, then we must be willing to help them.

The inspiration for Renewed Hope Foundation is a little boy named Justen. Justen suffered severe brain damage prior to birth due to multiple strokes. Due to the severity of his brain injury, Justen was blind, immobile, insensate, and nonverbal. Justen’s parents were told he had little chance of progressing ….. he would probably never even know who they were. Refusing to accept this grim prognosis, Justen’s family searched for answers to help their son.

Through the years, Justen’s family found parent driven programs that have helped their son. Justen and his family have traveled to clinics throughout North America to learn methods that they could do at home. With no financial assistance available from existing organizations, they invested their own money to do this training to help Justen.

As a result of these programs, Justen continues to improve. He has gone from blindness to seeing to reading (by age 4). He is medication free and incredibly healthy. His seizures have reduced significantly. Although he still struggles in many areas, he can communicate with his family. His structure is improving, which will hopefully help him to one day walk. And, yes, he knows who his parents are….

Justen still has a long road ahead, but he has already done the impossible. Parents of severely brain injured children are often given no hope. Without parental determination and intervention, a grim prognosis can become a reality. But, there is hope. It just requires hard work and money.

Renewed Hope Foundation helps families with special needs children throughout the Rocky Mountain region who want to invest their efforts to help make their child better. We offer training, support, and encouragement to optimize their disabled child’s potential.

As we learn how to help special needs children improve, we learn methods that are effective in early development of all children. Therefore, Renewed Hope Foundation also provides local workshops and training to parents regarding well child development and ways to optimize that development.

Renewed Hope Foundation focuses on helping families of special needs children obtain education and training on parent driven programs designed to improve their child’s physical, intellectual, and physiological function. We do this by providing funding for parent training, programs, equipment and other needs each family may have.

The assistance offered by Renewed Hope Foundation frees parents of special needs children to focus on the hard work of helping their child get better, instead of the financial burden associated with these efforts. We want to give these families a renewed hope for their child.
